Never too late to blog

So can I just say that I can't believe it's taken me so long to start a blog. I mean it's a perfect fit for me: someone who's kept a journal most of her life, wrote a weekly column for her college newspaper (woot, woot! Sex and the UniverCity), and is constantly entertaining herself with some sort of craft. I should have started this years ago! But the words of my dad are echoing in my head: "I hate the word 'should'. It should not even be in the dictionary." (Haha, see the irony?) Anyway, he's right. I didn't start this years ago, but am picking it up now and will do my best to keep up!

Even when I started writing this, it was not my intention to post pictures, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that this is a perfect place to post pictures of those knitting projects and paintings and other crafts that my facebook friends may or may not care about. It's also nice that I can tell little stories along with them, or attach a pattern in case I want to recreate it. So as a forewarning, my blog that was intended to serve basically as an electronic journal may change a little in hopes that you AND I will both enjoy reading/viewing it a bit more!

The only problem with maintaining the blog is lack of time. (Can you tell by the fact that I haven't posted in 2 months?) I just have so many thoughts and ideas that I'd love to put down on paper (or in this case, the computer) but between my 2 main jobs (marketing & mommy) finding time to do my other crafts or write is close to impossible. I guess even quick little posts with photos will be nice to look back on someday though. So I will just post as the inspiration hits me!

Big Sister Training

So yes, we are expecting again! It's been a long first four months, but now that I'm finally feeling better and it has finally stopped snowing, things are starting to look up. We are really looking forward to welcoming a new member to our family come September, and savoring this time with Ainsley. A lot of changes have been going on over at the Ulstad household. Ryan got a new job that required him to go away for training the entire month of February (literally, the whole month: he left on the 1st came back on the 28th). My sister moved in with us in the beginning of January, and thank God she did because I don't think I would have survived February without her! Between my all-day nausea and her difficult clinical, we were a lovely bunch to be around. Despite my complaining, it was a good experience. New big room, new big bed, still my little girl

One of our second semester spring projects was to move Ainsley out of the nursery and into her new room. I don't like rushing her into major developments before she's ready, but with my growing belly, it was just getting too difficult for me to read to her in the rocker and then lift her up and over the crib. Laying next to her in a queen-sized bed was much more enticing. The transition to the big bed in the new room actually went very smoothly. Forget the toddler bed, forget the railings, we went straight to the big bed with pool noodles and a barrier of pillows. We did naps in there one week and then tried full nights the next week. At 22 months, she did great! Now, at 25 months, we are having a little bit more trouble getting her to bed, but I blame that on her other major developments. Here are some pictures of her new room. An Aran Peek-A-Boo

I'm finally finished!!!! It only took me a year and a half, having to be put on halt due to carpal tunnel and adjusting to first-time mommy hood, but I am finally done with Ainsley's baby blanket! I started it shortly after I found out I was pregnant--so excited to have a baby to knit things for and a reason to purchase more expensive yarn from the specialty shop. I just love going to the yarn store! I could spend hours just perusing all the different colors and touching all the different fibers. For this special project, I wanted to do an Aran blanket, something that dug into my Irish roots, and I knew it would be a challenge. I picked this pattern  off Ravelry and decided on a soft neutral gray yarn that would be suitable for either a boy or girl.
