Our little dose of summer in the spring

So it's been just over a week since we were on vacation in Florida with Ryan's family and my skin has already gone from burnt to tan and back to white again. Maybe it was the vitamin D overload from the 8 cloudless, 80-degree days or the miserable return to a sea of green allergy-infested air, but I am soooooooo ready for summer. Now!

It was a lovely week where Ainsley got to spend a lot of time with her cousins and grandma. Ryan got to play some golf and I got to relax on the pristine white-sand beaches. I was a little concerned about the plane ride with a 10 month old, but she did great! On the way back, she was even super excited and hyper. It was like she remembered the experience from the week before and was thrilled to do it again. She banged on the windows and flirted with the older man in the seat behind us. I never saw her so friendly with a stranger, she normally freaks out when a guy she doesn't know does so much as look at her. It was like we returned home with a different baby!

Other than the plane, which I do not have pictures of, I'll let the photos do most of the talking about our trip. They do a decent job of capturing some of my favorite moments:

Now despite how happy and excited she appears in this first photo, Ainsley was absolutely terrified of the sand and the sun and the waves and everything we love about the beach. I tried to get her used to it but her smiles lasted only as long as it took for me to snap some decent photos. (With the continuous shutter on, that was only about 30 seconds.)
I think she even wanted to enjoy it, but found it very hard. Every time a wave came in I'd go "Weeeeee, weeeeee…" and she would do the same through very tightly clenched teeth.

Clearwater is known for their beautiful west coast sunsets, which we got the pleasure of viewing almost every night. This one night we made a pitiful attempt at getting some family photos on the beach. I now understand the struggles my mother went through to get a decent family photo. It's so hard!!!! And despite the continuous shutter and the majority of the humans being adults, we still came out with JUST one photo worth printing. (Notice I say printing and not framing -- still not good enough for that in my eyes!) But here it is:
Note that not a single child is looking at the camera! Haha, but after a little bribery, we at least got Rory to smile!
Anyway, it's far easier to capture moments with one or two people in them or of course objects that move very slowly like the setting sun…

But my favorite vacation picture of all was, of course, taken by accident. It was taken by Jay and Dana's au-pair when I was trying to calm down Miss Ainsley who was up past her bedtime to watch the sunset. I didn't know the picture was being taken and I don't even remember lifting Ainsley up that high. Just a perfectly captured moment!
